Contains correspondence of James Hosmer Penniman, teacher, educator, and literary and historical collector. The rest of the papers consist of Penniman's collection of historical documents, correspondence, diaries, manuscripts, other papers and books on the subject of education. Included here is a discrete collection of David Francis Lincoln (1841-1916) papers containing correspondence and research notes on Lincoln's studies on various aspects of education.

The records consist of correspondence, questionnaires, memoranda, log books, memorabilia, agendas, minutes, photograph albums, and finanical reports from class council and executive council meetings, and statistical charts and reports of Yale College classes. Materials concerning the Sheffield Scientic School Class of 1920 are also included.

The papers consist of professional files; genealogical materials; photographs and memorabilia; and writings and translations documenting Yung Kwai's participation in the Chinese Educational Mission, his diplomatic career with the Chinese Legation, as well as his personal life.
