One of the two principal figures is Elijah Bates (Y.1794) with accounts of his expenses at Yale College, some notes on his reading and the text of a play in which he took part. Isaac Chapman Bates (Y.1802) is represented with a petition to the president of Yale College, two letters and an obituary notice.
