The papers contain correspondence, diaries, military papers, and other material documenting the military career of Albert Barnitz and Barnitz family life. The papers concern such subjects as cavalry operations, military life, relations between parents and children, and child rearing practices.

Abstract:

The papers document the late nineteenth and early twentieth-century historiography of General George Armstrong Custer and the Little Big Horn Battle. The collection contains research material consisting of correspondence, notes, writings, photoprints and maps. There is some original nineteenth centry material related to Custer, in particular the correspondence of Edward Settle Godfrey, but most of the papers are reproductions of original primary material.

This collection documents the research and writing of Richard Slotkin chiefly related to his historical studies and works of historical fiction, 1959-circa 2012. Material includes his research notes, his typed drafts, and proofs of works. Other material includes Slotkin's course notes and papers from his doctoral work at Brown University.

Abstract: Papers of five family members, the children and daughter-in-law of Alfred and Clarissa Terry, make up the major part of the collection. The most prominent figure is Alfred Howe Terry, a Civil War general in the Union army, whose correspondence and military papers relate to the Fitz-John Porter case, the Indian campaigns (1870s) and reminiscences of military service and the Civil War.
