Scrapbooks of clippings and typed transcriptions of scrapbooks (1882-1898) concerning his career as lawyer, member of Congress from Ohio (1878-1882, 1886-1890) and commissioner of patents (1883-1885, 1897-1898). Overview: The papers consist of correspondence, lecture notes, financial papers, and writings relating to Wightman's student years at Yale University and his early legal practice. Correspondents include his parents, his Yale classmates, his brother-in-law, and various young men and women (mainly from Middletown, Connecticut) who were his friends. The notes are from lectures and other activities in Yale College. The financial papers are for his college expenses.
