Biographical / Historical

Colonel Frank Trumbull Lee (1856-1902) of Madison, Connecticut, worked in New Haven as a tobacconist in 1880; was secretary of the New Haven Carriage Company and a member of the firm of Leo & Osborn, machinists; was a real estate dealer; and was an officer of the Imperial Hygenique Fluid Company from 1895 to 1896.

From 1889 to 1893, Lee served with the Connecticut National Guard, New Haven Grays, Company F, Second Regiment.

He was briefly married to Virginia “Bessie” Scranton Lee, with whom he had a daughter, Marion Frances Lee. Following his divorce, Lee lived with his mother, Frances Maria Lewis Lee (1818-1902), and sister, Elizabeth B. Lee (1847-1924), in New Haven.

Access Information

The Beinecke Library is open to all Yale University students and faculty, and visiting researchers whose work requires use of its special collections. You will need to bring appropriate photo ID the first time you register. Beinecke is a non-circulating, closed stack library. Paging is done by library staff during business hours. You can request collection material online at least two business days in advance of your visit, using the request links in Archives at Yale.
