Processing Information

Collections are processed to a variety of levels, depending on the work necessary to make them usable, their perceived research value, the availability of staff, competing priorities, and whether or not further accruals are expected. The library attempts to provide a basic level of preservation and access for all collections, and does more extensive processing of higher priority collections as time and resources permit.

During processing, letters were removed from the 22 volumes to which they were previously adhered to better facilitate use of the collection. The order established in these volumes (alphabetical) has been maintained. The original card index identifying the volume and page number for each letter is present in the collection (Box 9-10). Photocopies of the catalog cards from which this finding aid was made are housed with the collection (Box 1). The catalog cards are not exhaustive--for a full listing of collection contents, consult the card index.
