Abstract
A set of twenty digitally-printed color photographic prints made by photographer Tanya Marcuse between 2019 and 2020 depicting portraits of women associated with Yale University. The portrait project was commissioned in commemoration of the 50th/150th anniversary of coeducation of Yale College.
Biographical / Historical
Photographer Tanya Marcuse has been working with photography as an art form since 1983. She attended Bard College and Oberlin before receiving her MFA from Yale University in 1990.
In commemoration of coeducation at Yale College as part of 50WomenAtYale150 celebration, Marcuse was commissioned by the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library to create 20 portraits of women at Yale. A selection of 12 photographs from the series were displayed in an exhibition titled “12 Portraits: Studies of Women at Yale” in the Sterling Memorial Library Memorabilia Room in March 2020. An online exhibit complemented the installation.
