Scope and Contents: The Terner collection features autograph letters and manuscripts by nineteenth and twentieth century American artists, chiefly painters and sculptors. Materials include correspondence, documents, financial records, and signatures, though most files in the collection consist of a single or small number of letters, chiefly autograph letters, signed, from the named artist to a third party. Some letters include enclosures, such as clippings and photographs, and some letters are addressed to earlier autograph collectors. For example, there are numerous letters dating from approximately 1885 to 1900 to Benjamin W. Austin and from 1900 to 1930 to Glen Walton Blodgett. The one large group of material in the collection, consisting of approximately 130 pieces of correspondence and other items, relates to Charles Bregler.
