Scope and Contents

The Samuel Adams Green papers consist of correspondence, photographs, printed materials, audiocassette recordings, artwork, and other papers by or relating to curator, socialite, and celebrity assistant Samuel Adams Green. The bulk of the archive is organized into binders that document with correspondence, photographs, clippings, and other papers Green's relationships with notable figures including Cecil Beaton, Greta Garbo, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and many other artists and celebrities. The collection also includes correspondence, photographs, clippings, and other papers documenting Green's work as an art curator and preservationist, including the 1965 Andy Warhol retrospective he organized while director of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Additional personal papers include journals, day planners, a guest book from Green's home in Cartagena, Colombia, correspondence, photographs, and clippings. Additional photographs include slides from Green's travels. Audiovisual materials include audiocassettes containing demo recordings from Yoko Ono and John Lennon, as well as answering machine recordings of Andy Warhol, Cecil Beaton, and others.
