Robert Dahl graduated from the University of Washington in 1936 and received the Doctor of Philosophy degree from Yale in 1940. After serving in World War II, he began his teaching career at Yale in 1946. His pioneering work, Politics, Economics and Welfare (with Yale professor Charles E. Lindblom), 1953, became a landmark in the field of political economy. His book on New Haven, Who Governs?, won the Woodrow Wilson Award in 1962. At Yale, his name is associated with "The Dahl Report," 1972, on the future of Yale College.
