Scope and Contents

This series includes Charles Hill's correspondence, course materials, research files, and his published and unpublished writings between 2007 and 2020. Material in this series reflects Hill's teaching and research interest in diplomacy and statecraft as well as his administrative duties at the Yale Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy. The files also contain materials related to his professional relationships with former United States secretaries of state Henry Kissinger and George Shultz.

Conditions Governing Access

Correspondence with Henry Kissinger and George Shultz is closed until five years after their deaths. Memoranda of Conversations with Henry Kissinger are closed until twenty-five years after Kissinger's death.

The administrative files (containing information on the Brady-Johnson program in Grand Strategy, academic appointments, and other departmental issues) are restricted until 1 January 2051 and material containing student grades is restricted until 2093 as established by Yale Corporation regulations


This series is arranged into four groupings: Correspondence, Course materials, Research materials and subject files, and Writings.
