Scope and Contents
This collection is made up of ledgers and other papers relating to the farm and sawmill of the Theodore Buck family of New Milford, Connecticut. The oldest ledger was kept by Theodore Buck (1796-1873); the entries deal with the sale of farm produce and lumber, as well as activities of the sawmill. Included are a record of personal expenses and an authorization by Buck to his son, Anan, to collect rents. Two later ledgers and a day book kept by Buck's son, Salmon Waller Buck (1823-[1893?]), were continued after his death by his son, Frederick T. Buck. The entries in these deal primarily with the activities of the sawmill and, after 1860, a cidermill. There are also entries for the sale of farm produce and carting.
Also in the collection are a number of loose papers, including a deed for land in New Milford and a plan of land owned by Josiah Lockwood; a report to the Probate Court on the estate left by Salmon W. Buck; and bills, receipts, and related papers. There are, in addition, six letters, of which the two most recent are family letters and the remainder business letters.
