Among the items are the receipt book for William Bennet's estate (1786-1801), deeds, marriage certificates and wills.

Biographical / Historical

The Valentine family were a prominent family on Long Island since at least the early 19th century. In 1801, William Valentine acquired two paper mills in Roslyn, which the Valentine family controlled for the next century. They also figured prominently in the history of Oyster Bay, Glen Cove, and Hempstead. Alan C. Valentine was chosen to be president of the University of Rochester at age 33.
