Scope and Contents

The Allard K. Lowenstein Collection consists of a volume, "Documentation Concerning Serious Factual Errors in the Forthcoming Book by Richard Cummings Purportedly about Allard K. Lowenstein." The volume contains copies of letters, affidavits, and other materials compiled by Lowenstein's colleagues and friends to refute Cumming's assertions in The Pied Piper: Allard Lowenstein and the Liberal Dream (Grove Press, 1985) that Lowenstein was a paid agent of the CIA. The volume also contains reviews of The Pied Piper.

The Yale Library purchased the Documentation volume from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom (attorneys) in 1986.
