Scope and Contents
The W. Todd Furniss Papers consist of two autobiographical volumes,Six Henderson Place, Manhattanand itsSupplement, which describe the life of the Furniss family from 1927 to 1942. In addition, theSupplementitemizes the contents of five scrapbooks, three of which are located in the Manuscripts and Archives Department. (See call number Yez/+942f/vols. 1-3.) The Furniss Autograph Collection is also housed in Manuscripts and Archives. (See Miscellaneous Manuscripts Collection, MS GR 352.)

The W. Todd Furniss papers consist of two autobiographical volumes which describe the life of the Furniss family from 1927-1942.
Biographical / Historical
Warren Todd Furniss was born in Pelham, New York, on June 5, 1921. He attended Phillips Academy, Andover, and Yale, where he majored in English and was a member of the Class of 1942. Upon graduation, Furniss entered the U. S. Army Air Force, serving chiefly in the Medical Administrative Corps in Guam until 1946. After completing his tour of service, he received an M.A. (1948) and a Ph.D. (1952), both in English, from Yale University.
W. Todd Furniss has served as an instructor at Mount Holyoke College (1949-1951); as an instructor, associate professor, and associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Ohio State University; and as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Hawaii. Furniss retired as senior academic advisor from the American Council of Education in 1983. He continued to act as a consultant in the field of higher education.
Furniss has been a member of the Modern Language Association, the American Association of University Professors, the Wilson Ornithological Society, the American Ornithological Union, and the World Affairs Forum of Hawaii. His publications include Ben Jonson's Masques (Yale Unversity Press, 1958) and numerous articles and reviews on literary and educational topics.
