Biographical / Historical

Richard Doughty Johnson was born on August 31, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, to Henry Arnold and Mary Ruth Doughty Johnson. After graduating from Cass Technical High School in Detroit in 1951, he earned a Bachelor of Science (1958) and Masters of Urban Planning (1968) from Michigan State University. From 1964 to 1965, Johnson was city planner for the New Haven, Connecticut, City Plan Commission.
