Overview

The records comprise over 300 pieces of correspondence and other documents from the archives of Agudat Israel from the time of the establishment of the State of Israel.

Biographical / Historical

Agudat Israel is an Orthodox Jewish organization founded in Poland in 1912. Originally opposed to Zionism, the members of Agudat Israel agreed to support the Jewish state after David Ben Gurion yielded an influential role to the Orthodox rabbinate within an otherwise largely secular government.
