Jean Paul Oppenheim autograph collection
Scope and Contents
This is a collection of approximately two hundred letters and signatures of various famous people, including United States presidents, senators, and other government figures, presidents and other officers of colleges, prime ministers, actors, musicians, writers, and so forth. There is also an assortment of miscellaneous items including postcards, photographs, printed matter, and letters from secretaries of notable people to whom Oppenheim had written for autographs.
The letters are arranged in chronological order. An alphabetical index has been provided to both the letters and the autographs.
These papers were donated to Yale University in 1952 by Laurent Oppenheim, Jr., brother of the collector of the papers, Jean Paul Oppenheim.

A collection of approximately two hundred letters and signatures of notable persons, chiefly United States political figures, including presidents, senators and other government figures. Only a few Europeans are in the papers. Also included are postcards, photographs and printed matter.
Biographical / Historical
Jean Paul Oppenheim, "Opp," was born in New York City on May 7, 1907. His father, Laurent Oppenheim, is a retired banker and a former member of the New York Stock Exchange. Mrs. Oppenheim's name before her marriage was Amy Schwartz. Oppenheim's brother Laurent Oppenheim, Jr., graduated from Sheff in 1921.
His preparatory education was received at the Bovee School and the Allen-Stevenson School in New York City. He heeled the Record in Freshman year. He lived alone while at Yale, at 333 York Street, 52 Vanderbilt, and 576 York-Library.
Oppenheim left college in November of Junior year because of ill health. He is now with Simmons & Slade, members of the New York Stock Exchange, his business address being 5 Nassau Street, New York City. He lives at the Hotel Plaza.
