Julian Joel Obermann (1888-1956): born in Warsaw, Poland; Ph.D., University of Vienna, 1915; emigrated to U.S. in 1923; professor of Semitic philology, Jewish Institute of Religion, New York, 1923-1931; professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 1929-1930; professor of Semitic languages at Yale University, 1933-1956; author and editor of numerous books and articles.
