Scope and Contents

Contained in this collection is a small amount of correspondence and other papers relating to the resignation of Edwin Pond Parker from the Yale University Corporation in 1919, as well as some earlier correspondence. Among his correspondents are Arthur Twining Hadley, Timothy Dwight, Willian Lyon Phelps, Noah Porter, and Anson Phelps Stokes.

Also contained in the papers is a memorandum by Parker on the election of Arthur Twining Hadley as president of Yale in 1899, in which he discusses sources of opposition to Twining and how these were overcome.

The Edwin Pond Parker Papers were given to Yale University in 1965 by Walter S. Haynes.

Abstract

The papers contain correspondence, some of which relates to his resignation from the Yale Corporation, and a memorandum concerning the election of Arthur Twining Hadley as president of Yale.

Biographical / Historical

Clergyman; B.A., Bowdoin, 1856; grad. from Bangor Theological Seminary in 1859; ordained and installed in the Second Church, Hartford, 1860; he was pastor or pastor emeritus of the Second Church of Christ for sixty years.
