Biographical / Historical
The War Poster Collection is a composite of several individual donations and library purchases, accumulated from the 1920s through the 1980s, and 2004. Individual donations, such as that of Lafon Allen, are identified within the War Poster Collection, as single collections themselves.

Processing Information
The original item-level index to series I was produced using the FAMULUS word processing program and later converted to an Excel spreadsheet and encoded in EAD. A small quantity of World War I posters from the collections of Simon Brett, Paul Jean Gaston Darrott, and William Mullally were not originally itemized or indexed. In May 2014 these items were indexed while encoding the finding aid. However, they were not assigned item numbers. Thirty posters from the Allen Collection had also not previously been described at the item level. During the creation of the encoded finding aid, these posters were described at the item level and the original codes and numerical identifiers were retained.
