Biographical / Historical

Cathy Courtney is a noted author and researcher on the topic of British artists' books. She became interested in artists' books in the 1980s after she encountered them in New York City. In 1983, she began to write about artists' books in a column for Art Monthly, covering the artists' books scene in Great Britian. Her column and subsequent publications surfaced the lively debates about what an artist book is or is not, highlighted the works of artists, and raised awareness about artists' books more broadly.
