Scope and Contents
The collection comprises material relating to 1970s and early 1980s British photography, including: an original copy of Benedict-Jones's MS thesis, "Contemporary British Photography" (MIT, 1982), which focuses on 10 photographers: Paul Trevor, Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen, Martin Parr, Ron McCormick, Fay Godwin, John Blakemore, Paul Hill, Brian Griffin, Jo Spence, and Keith Arnatt -- A copy of POSITIVE, a publication of the MIT Creative Photography Laboratory, which summarize the thesis and the exhibition she curated at MIT of these photographers' work -- 17 cassette tapes of interviews with photographers, curators, photo-historians, and editors related to British photography, recorded in 1981. In addition to the 10 photographers listed above, there are also interviews with Colin Osman (founder and publisher of Creative Camera), Pete Turner (editor of Creative Camera), Roger Taylor (photohistorian and curator), and Sue Davies (founding director of the Photographers' Gallery) -- A few typewritten transcripts of these interviews -- A selection of correspondence with the 10 British photographers in connection with the exhibition in 1982. In the correspondence, the artists discuss the nature of their work and their approaches to photography -- A selection of British photography magazines from the 1970s and 1980s, including 13 issues of Camera work (1976-1981) and 27 issues of Creative Camera (1972-1981).
