Scope and Contents

This series includes holographs, sketches, and published works by Ruggles, arranged alphabetically by title. Ruggles wrote relatively few works, and revised them extensively. This, and his habit of composing on any size and type of paper at hand, have made the cataloging of his musical works unusually difficult. Oversize manuscripts are housed separately.

Photocopies have been made of works appearing on the backs of other works, with cross-references made to the originals. Cross-references have also been made from individual works to sketchbooks containing various compositions. Further cross-references appear in the register for works with various titles and from movements or parts of a work performed separately.
