Overview: The collection relates to the personal and professional life of Lyman Hoover. There is documentation of the work of the YMCA in China from 1930 until the Communist takeover in 1950, including observations of Chinese social and political conditions. Lyman Hoover was a missionary in China under the auspices of the YMCA (1930-1949) and a consultant and representative of the Asia Foundation (formerly known as Committee for a Free Asia) in New York and Taiwan.
