Isaac Backus papers

Overview: Personal papers of Backus document his professional work and include diaries, travel journals, autobiographical statements, sermons, published and unpublished writings, and extracts from readings. Collected papers include correspondence and narratives chronicling the Separate Baptist struggle for religious freedom, gathered by Backus.

Edward L. Bliss papers

Overview: This collection includes correspondence personal memorabilia, and photographs documenting the life of missionary Edward L. Bliss. Edward L. Bliss (1865-1960) was stationed in Shaowu, China as a medical missionary by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Bliss contributed to the eradication of rinderpest in cattle and lived in China through the First Sino-Japanese War and the Xinhai Revolution.

Missionary Postcard Collection

Overview: The collection includes more than 25,000 missionary postcards. These postcards were produced by mission sending agencies and distributed throughout Europe and America with the intent of promoting support for the missions' work and providing information about non-Western peoples and customs.

Paul Yu-Kuang Sun papers

Overview: This collection reflects the life and works of Paul Yu-Kuang Sun, a surviving prisoner of the White Terror in Taiwan from the mid-twentieth century. This collection was put together by his daughter Kang-I Sun Chang to include his writings, audio and visual copies of a selection of Sun’s sermons and lectures including one at Yale University, a large selection of Sun’s correspondence in both English and Chinese, and some biographical materials including published works about Paul Sun.

Yale University Divinity School Memorabilia Collection

Overview: This collection represents primarily non-official documentation of life at Yale Divinity School. The official archives of the Yale University Divinity School are housed at Sterling Memorial Library. The Yale University Divinity School was formed as a separate department of the University in 1822. Since 1972 Berkeley Divinity School has been affiliated with Yale University Divinity School. The Institute of Sacred Music, founded at Yale in 1973, is also affiliated with the Divinity School.
