Student notebooks, writings, lectures given at the Yale Medical School, photographs, and memorabilia relating to Osborne's professional career. The largest part of the papers consists of the lectures given at Yale between 1924 and 1925. Also included is a matriculation book from Leipzig University (1884-1885) and other notebooks, printed matter, and speeches on medical subjects. Several photographs show views of Berlin and other parts of Germany.

Chiefly medical notebooks (1829-1831) of lectures William J. Powell attended at the Columbia University Medical School, recording lectures by A. H. Stevens, John A. Smith, John B. Beck, Joseph M. Smith, and Edward Delafield. Also included is a notebook containing a diary of his medical practice aboard the U.S.S. Ohio (1842). The school books of his son, Stephen C. Powell, including notes from his studies at the Yale Medical School, are also in the papers.

The major figures represented in the collection are Robert Tarleton, his wife Sarah Bernard Lightfoot Tarleton, and Sarah Bee Ross Lightfoot. Most letters were written by Robert Tarleton and date from the Civil War period. The papers also contain an 1834 letter from Marquis de Lafayette to the President of the French Chamber of Peers.
