John David Hayes Papers
The papers include writings, biographical documentation, photographs, and a tape recording documenting Hayes' work in China. Hayes was a Presbyterian missionary in China from 1917 to 1952, serving primarily in the Beijing (Peking) area. He was involved in student, educational, and administrative work. Hayes was interned by the Japanese during World War II and imprisoned by the Communists in China from 1951 to 1952.
Henry Harris Jessup Papers
Correspondence, journals, diaries, writings, photographs, and collected material document the missionary work of Henry Harris Jessup and his wife Theodosia Davenport Jessup in Syria. Henry Harris Jessup (1832-1910) was a missionary in Syria from 1856 to 1910, serving under the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions and Presbyterian Mission Board . He was one of the founders of the Syrian Protestant College, later known as the American University of Beirut.
Nourse family papers
The papers consist of a scrapbook begun by James Nourse in 1850, entitled "Family Memorials." Included are genealogical charts, notes on family history, family correspondence, portraits, certificates, and clippings concerning his ancestors and extended family. The materials primarily document Nourse family history and James Nourse's abolitionist views.
