Abstract:

A. B. Guthrie Jr. (1901-1991), Montana-born writer whose popular Western novels include The Big Sky (1947), The Way West (1949), and Fair Land, Fair Land (1982). His autobiography was published in 1965. In his later years Guthrie became an outspoken advocate of conservation in the West.

There is extensive material on Hulme's literary career, including correspondence on such subjects as Catholic reaction to The Nun's Story and the teachings of Gurdjieff. Major correspondents include Margaret Anderson, Kay Boyle, Bernice Baumgarten Cozzens, Janet Flanner, Solita Solano, and Dorothy Troxel.

The papers contain writings, correspondence, family papers, photographs, and printed works documenting the life and writing career of James Jones. Included among the writings are drafts of six published novels and one unpublished one, poetry, screenplays and short stories. The papers also provide documentation on his personal life, particularly during World War II, his early efforts to find a publisher for his works, and his long association with Harry and Lowney Handy.
