Abstract:

The collection consists of correspondence by Carlo Tommaso Maillard de Tournon, members of his staff, and associates which documents Tournon's legation to the Sino-Manchu empire (1705-1710). The collection also includes a journal kept by Giovanni Borghese, Tournon's personal physician; later letters (1711-1726) from missionaries in China; and twentieth century printed material concerning Tournon and his mission.

Correspondence to and from John Flournoy Montgomery while he was United States Ambassador to Hungary, 1933-1939. The letters are bound in ten volumes and are arranged both chronologically and alphabetically.

Also present are two diaries kept by Hedwig Montgomery while in Budapest, 1940-1941, an appraisal of the Montgomery property, 1945, and letters from Hedwig and John Montgomery to their daughter Marie-Louise Osborn, 1949-1953.

Abstract: Peter Parker graduated from Yale College in 1831 and from the Medical Institution of Yale College in 1834. Ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1834, he sailed that year to China as the first Protestant medical missionary to that country. Correspondence, literary notes, clippings, photographs, and an album of poems and drawings on Edinburgh compiled (1898-1899) by Cecil Piatt. The correspondence consists mainly of letters to John Bear Piatt from family members on the frontier in Montana, Dakota territory, and Kansas. There are also letters from his son, John James Piatt, who served as the United States Consul in Cork, Ireland, from 1882-1893, and from Sarah Morgan Bryan Piatt, noted nineteenth century poet and author.
