Correspondence, writings, and other papers of Daniel Cady Eaton, botanist and professor at Yale. The correspondence is of an almost exclusively scientific nature and includes letters from a number of important scientists. Also included are some genealogical materials on the Eaton family.
The papers contain correspondence covering Evans' tenure as curator and curator emeritus of the Eaton Herbarium and other botanical collections and primarily concern collecting and identifying species of lichens, mosses, liverworts and other plants.
The materials consist of lantern slides maintained by the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University documenting North American vegetation and habitats.
The papers include professional and family correspondence, periodicals and pamphlets, books annotated by George Reber Wieland and scientific and personal photographs. The professional correspondence deals with his scientific expeditions and with negotiations on his proposed gift to the United States of a tract of land in South Dakota known as the "Fossil Cycad National Monument."
