Scope and Contents: Comprises portrait photographs of individual members of the Carr family. The inside front cover of the album is inscribed: "The Children of T.W. Carr, Rector of Barming." Mounts of the photographs have been labeled in a single (much later?) hand. The majority of photographs appear to be albumen prints.The album includes portraits of T.W. George H. Bissell papers

Abstract:

The papers consist of printed material, business records, and photographs that document the Bissell family and the foundations of the American petroleum industry in the 1850s. The collection is bound in seven volumes: two volumes of printed material relating to petroleum and other industries, three volumes of records of the Pennsylvania Rock Oil Company and the Adirondack Pulp Mills that document the creation and early growth of the companies, and two Bissell family photograph albums.

School portrait of a group of girls aged about ten. The girls all wear what appear to be their best dresses, not uniforms. A female teacher sits in the middle of the group, and another woman stands at top right. Potted plants are placed around the front row of seated girls. Print is mounted on a decorative card with information about the Royal family, and a celebratory message: "1837 Sixty Years Happy and Glorious Reign 1897."

Portrait of a class of boys aged roughly twelve or thirteen. Their teacher stands to the left of the group. All boys wear suits, not uniforms, and several have academic medals pinned to their jackets. A small marquee has "Harrow Road [?]" chalked on it. Print is mounted on a decorative card with information about the Royal family printed on it and a celebratory message: "1837 Sixty Years Happy and Glorious Reign 1897."

Maude is shown here wearing a regal looking costume, consisting of a cap with pheasant feathers, a fur-trimmed striped bodice with dark fabric bib and cuffed sleeves (cuffs are a pale velvety material, with frilly wrists), a cape decorated with spangles, tasseled epaulets, thick black tights and low heeled black shoes. She is wearing heavy makeup, with her eyes lined and lips rouged. The print is signed, "With love from Maudie/ Jan 29th 92."
