A collection of correspondence; government documents, including reports, commissions, decrees, legal proceedings, account books, treasury records, petitions, geographic relations and awards; church documents; writings and poems; and published illustrated materials from the Andean region of Latin America (Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela) on civil, military, economic, religious, and social topics.
The collection consists of ships' journals, invoices, manifests, lists of crews, clearance papers and other documents relating to shipping, largely from Connecticut ports in the 18th and 19th centuries. There is also a small quantity of papers from Massachusetts, New York and elsewhere.
Journals, letterbook, medical notes, and essays of Benajah Ticknor, doctor and surgeon with the U.S. Navy. Of primary importance are the journals which describe journeys made by Ticknor with the Navy to South America, the Far East, and Europe.
